Electrical emergency? Call James direct.
Same-day response during business hours. Best-effort after hours for genuine emergencies.
If any of these are happening now, call straight through.
What counts as an electrical emergency
- Burning smell from a power point, switch, or switchboard
- Sparking outlets or visible arcing
- Partial or total power loss with no obvious cause
- Safety switch that won’t reset (and trips again immediately)
- Smoke or scorch marks around electrical fittings
- Water damage affecting any electrical components
- Electric shock from a tap, appliance, or fitting (even a small one – call)
- Exposed or damaged wiring visible anywhere in the home
If you smell burning or see sparking, turn off the power at the switchboard if you can safely do so, and call immediately.
I'm an owner-operator, not a call centre. That means my hours are real, not a marketing line.
My Hours
Mon–Fri 7am–4pm
Same-day callouts, usually within 1–3 hours of the call.
Sat 7am–12pm
Same-day callouts for genuine emergencies. Non-urgent work booked to the next business day.
Sun & after hours
For genuine emergencies only (burning smell, sparking, no power affecting the whole house) – call and I’ll do my best to help. For everything else, leave a message and I’ll call you back first thing the next business day.
Public holidays
Same as Sundays – call and I’ll do my best.
I’m a one-man operation, so during storm season or major weather events response times can stretch. If it’s urgent and I can’t get there fast enough, I’ll tell you straight and recommend a colleague I trust.
No inflated "emergency rates." No mysterious fees.
What an emergency callout costs
What happens after the callout
- If the fix is straightforward and within the callout time, the total is just the callout fee plus parts
- If further work is needed, you get a separate written quote and the callout fee is waived against the repair cost
- Common parts (safety switches, power points, standard fittings) usually carried on the van for same-visit fixes

NO CALL CENTRES, EVER
When you call INEX, you get me on the phone.
No dispatcher, no “we’ll send someone out” with no name attached. No subcontractor turning up who’s never heard of your house before. The person who takes your call is the person who turns up. That matters when it’s 9pm and you need someone who actually knows what they’re doing.
Common electrical emergencies
My safety switch keeps tripping. Is that an emergency?
Maybe. If it trips and you can reset it normally, you’ve probably just got a faulty appliance – unplug everything and reset, then plug items back in one at a time to find the culprit. If it trips immediately and won’t reset, or keeps tripping repeatedly, that’s a fault in the circuit itself and you should call. Don’t keep using the affected circuit while you wait.
I smell something burning near a power point but I can't see anything.
Call. Burning smells from electrical fittings almost always mean an overloaded or failing connection. Turn off the power at the switchboard to that circuit if you can safely identify which one, and call straight through. Don’t keep using the outlet while you wait for the callout – the connection can fail further and the smell can turn into smoke.
Half my house has lost power but the other half is fine.
Usually a tripped circuit breaker or safety switch on the affected side. Check your switchboard – if a switch is in the “off” or middle position, try resetting it. If it trips again immediately, call. If everything looks normal at the switchboard but half the house is still dead, it could be a supply issue to your property (a fallen line, a blown service fuse) which is Energex’s responsibility – but call me first and I can help identify which it is.
There's been a flood or water damage affecting electrical fittings. What do I do?
Don’t touch anything electrical in the affected area. If you can safely reach your switchboard, turn off the power to the affected circuits – but only if you can do so without standing in water or reaching across wet surfaces. Don’t turn anything back on until it’s been inspected. Call straight through and I’ll prioritise getting out to you. Water and electricity is the one combination that genuinely cannot wait.
I got a small electric shock from a tap or appliance. Is that serious?
Call. Even a small shock can indicate a serious earth fault in your wiring or a failing appliance. The fix is usually quick, but it needs to be done before someone gets a bigger shock. Don’t keep using the appliance or fitting in the meantime, and if it’s the tap that zapped you, avoid using that tap until the wiring’s been checked. It can be a sign of a failing RCD or a lost earth somewhere in the home.
I think the issue is with Energex's supply, not my wiring. Can you check?
Yes. If your neighbours are also without power, it’s almost certainly a supply issue – call Energex directly on 13 62 62 and they’ll usually have it sorted faster than I can get to you. If only your home is affected but the switchboard looks normal, it could be a supply issue to just your property (a fallen line, a blown service fuse at the meter) which is still Energex’s responsibility to fix. I can come out and tell you which it is – if it’s a supply fault I’ll redirect you to Energex rather than charging you for work they need to do.
Need help right now?
Call direct. No call centres, no waiting on hold, no subbie turning up who's never heard of your house.
