Residential Electrician Gold Coast
Switchboards, lighting, fans, power points, smoke alarms, and everything else around the house. Owner-operated from Southport, by a licensed electrician.
When you need a sparky you can actually trust.
Most of the calls I get are from people who got ghosted by the last electrician – quoted a job that never quite got started, or “almost finished” weeks ago. I do it the old-fashioned way: turn up when I say I will, quote fairly, do the work properly, and clean up after myself. If something’s not right, I come back and fix it. No call centres, no subbies, no runaround.
What I Do Around the House
01
Switchboard Upgrades
Old ceramic fuses or an overloaded board not keeping up with modern loads? Upgrade to a compliant switchboard with RCBO protection on every circuit.
02
LED Lighting & Lighting Design
New downlights, feature lighting, outdoor lighting, or full lighting redesign. Energy-efficient, properly zoned, and on separate switches where they should be.
03
Ceiling Fans & Exhaust Fans
New ceiling fan install, replacement of an existing unit, or bathroom/kitchen exhaust fan. Properly mounted, properly balanced, and properly switched.
04
Power Points, USB & Data
Add a power point where you need one, upgrade to USB-C outlets, or run data cabling for home offices and entertainment setups.
05
Fault Finding & Repairs
Tripping safety switch, dead circuit, flickering lights, or a power point that doesn't work. Diagnose the cause, fix the actual problem, not a temporary patch.
06
Renovations & New Builds
Full electrical fit-out for a renovation, extension, or new build. Working with your builder or directly with you. Proper plans, proper circuits, no shortcuts.
From first call to job done
Three steps, no mucking around.

SWITCHBOARD FIRST, EVERY TIME
We check the switchboard before we touch anything
A 30-year-old ceramic-fuse board can’t safely handle a modern home’s load – aircon, induction cooktops, multiple fridges, home offices, EV chargers. Before any new install or upgrade, I check your existing switchboard capacity, earthing, and RCBO protection. If something needs bringing up to standard first, you’ll know upfront. No “we’ll worry about that later” surprises.
ONE BLOKE, START TO FINISH
You deal with me, not a call centre.
When you call INEX, you get me. When I quote, I quote. When I install, I install. No sales rep on the phone, no apprentice unsupervised on the day, no “we’ll send someone out” with no name attached. It means I can’t always pick up – but it also means the person who shows up already knows your job.

Common questions about residential electrical work
How much does a residential electrician cost on the Gold Coast?
Depends on the job. Small jobs (single power point, light fitting, fault diagnosis) start from around $180. Standard half-day jobs (multiple power points, fan install, switchboard upgrade) typically $350–$900. Larger projects (full rewire, renovation, new build) are quoted per project after I’ve seen the scope. Every quote is fixed in writing, no hourly surprises.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes – QLD Electrical Licence 123123 and fully insured. Happy to send through certificates of currency before any work starts.
How quickly can you get to me?
For non-emergency residential work, usually within 2–4 business days. Emergency callouts (no power, burning smell, sparking outlet) same day during business hours. Quotes are usually scheduled within the week.
Do you do small jobs or only big ones?
Both. Power points, light fittings, single fan installs – I do all of it. Some sparkies only want the big jobs; I’m happy to do the small ones too, because small jobs become the big ones three years later.
Can I get a quote over the phone or do you need to come out?
Depends on the job. For a simple replacement (like-for-like ceiling fan, additional power point where there’s clear existing circuit capacity), I can often quote from a photo and a description. For anything more complex – switchboard work, new circuits, fault finding – I’ll come out and assess in person so the quote is accurate.
Do you clean up after the job?
Yes. Drop sheets down before work starts, vacuum or sweep at the end, all rubbish taken away. It’s not an add-on, it’s just how the job should be done.
What if something goes wrong with the work?
12-month workmanship warranty. If something I installed fails or isn’t right within 12 months, I come back and fix it at no charge. Beyond that, the manufacturer’s warranty covers any fittings I supplied.
Do you work with builders and property managers?
Yes. I do renovation and new build electrical for builders, and compliance work (smoke alarms, switchboards, safety inspections) for property managers. Happy to invoice directly to the agent or builder and quote off plans.
Can you work with my existing switchboard?
It depends on the age and condition. Modern switchboards (last 20–25 years) usually have the capacity to add a new circuit or two. Older ceramic-fuse boards need upgrading before adding major loads. I’ll check and tell you upfront what your board can and can’t handle.
Do you do emergency callouts?
Yes, during business hours (Mon–Fri 7am–4pm, Sat 7am–12pm). For genuine emergencies outside those hours – sparking, burning smell, no power affecting the whole house – call and I’ll do my best to help.
Do I need to be home for the quote visit?
Ideally yes, but not always essential. For internal work someone needs to be home to show me the issue and discuss options. For external work (switchboard, outdoor lighting) I can usually do the assessment without you being there if there’s clear access. I’ll confirm when booking.
What about the QLD smoke alarm laws - do you handle that?
Yes – full smoke alarm compliance upgrades, interconnected photoelectric alarm installs, and compliance certificates for rental properties. See the smoke alarm section above for full details, or call to book a free compliance assessment.
